My Two Cents: THE GREEN COOTER by Asher Darks

If you're looking for a timely, thought-provoking horror story that serves as satirical criticism about feminist roles and representation in the post-"Me Too" movement era, "The Green Cooter" by Asher Darks ain't it. If, however, you're looking for a short, raunchy, tongue-in-cheek tale about a party girl who finds her private parts playing host to a sentient green cosmic entity with an insatiable appetite for human flesh, well, then you're in luck.

I've come to know Darks through the online indie horror community and adore the fact that her sense of humor often veers toward the adolescent-fart-joke variety, like mine. That sort of silly, giggle-snort fun abounds in "The Green Cooter," and even though the premise may sound odd, I just recently watched "Buffet Infinity," about a sentient cosmic entity masquerading as an all-you-can-eat family dining establishment, so hey, tentacles popping out of genitalia didn't seem as bizarre to me as it might have otherwise.

Darks is all-in with the joke in this story, and the best part is seeing just how weird, wild, and off-the-wall she gets. It's not for the faint of heart, or for everyone's reading tastes, but I personally thought it was funny as hell. Horror takes itself way too seriously sometimes, and it's refreshing to find someone who's willing to try something new, different, and hilariously unique.

"The Green Cooter" is available here.
